We start our journey from computer science department in university of jaffna . Our lecturers Dr.k.Thavotharan and Dr.S. Ramanan were sendoff us at 9.30 pm.
january 23rd:
We safely reached to colombo tamil sankam at 6.30 am. Then get ready for the visit .
First We visited to the IFS company . IFS is a 10 floor building.We went to the 6th floor.
In IFS :
In 6th floor we went to the conference hall .After that the presentations started. The first presentation was delivered by a girl that she introduced about IFS and the future careers of IT Industrie
s .
after that another presentation delivered by Dr.Sukirtharan .He spoke about the soft skills . His presentation was very interested and very enjoyable .He talked very fun and the contents were deliverd very clearly from his presentation.
after that another presenter delivered a speech that about our projects.
He told that the industry expects outstanding students from universities .who did good projects and that was an innovative idea then that peoples most liked by the industries.
and he told an important thing that they don't expect the successful projects from the university students .they expect the student who did their final year projects that should be an technical problem and they need to know the whole area of this problem and they able to solve the problem in a technical way.
And students must be involved in their projects 100%.and they must be able to explain clearly about the problem of their projects.these points delivered by the presenter.
After his presentation we went to the ground floor for lunch. we ate a nice lunch.during the lunch time Dr,sukirtharan joined with us in the lunch table.We ate the food and discussed about his experiences and we also asked some questions about our final year proects.He spoke very friendly with us. He told about his university life and his final year project.He told us an important advice that "please study clearly in your accademic lessions and be clear in one language such as java or c++ that should be make a good opportunity in your career."
I asked a question to him .what field i need to choose for my final year project ?
He explained that ,you can choose any field that you are interested.but be clear and you need to explain and you should design the solution using technologies in your own .
I realy felt very excited after talked to him.
After the lunch we saw the working environments in IFS that realy nice..
after that we said thanks to the presenters and organizers of IFS and we got ready to go 99x technology.
In 99x Technology :
First miss.Kripa jeyakumar said the welcome speech and she said that introduce ourselves .Everyone introduced of their name and interests.I introduced myself .
Another important presentation delivered by samudra about the about 99x technology and the new technologies.
After that Hasith sir spoke about the softskills.
He asked some questions to my friends.
After that we saw the working environment of this industry.we break in to 4 groups .our group visited and saw a project.mr.Hasanga explained about his project. He told about the initial parts of his project.How requirements gathered from the customers ? How to document the requirements ? these things he discussed with us.
And he explained about the Bussiness Analysis (BA) .He told us about the BA ,these peoples discussed about the requirements with the customers and they explained to the developers ,so these Peoples(BA) interacted between the customers and the developers.this is my understandning from this discussion.
Because in IFS ,mr.sugirtharan also said that the industries expects the developers and BA s.The ratio of developers : Ba 's the company appoints(employed) is 2:1.that sukithan said us during the lunch time .
Then, they arranged the refreshments.then we involved in a group activity that very enjoyable.
At 3.30 pm we go out of this industry.
In h'Senid moblile company:
In h'senid mobile company,te first presenter delivered a presentaion about the h'senid mobile industry and the company's expectaions from the university students.He asked some questions to us ,I felt that discussion same as our rad lectures.
after that another presenter delivered a presentaion was about the softskills , new trends industries and the origin of this industry. After that we saw the working environment in this industry.
Then we leave from the industry at 6.30pm and our first day programmes end.
24th january :
our programmes start at 8.30am in Wso2 Company.
In Wso2:
first a presenter from HR delivered about the wso2 industry and their expectations from the university students.The important thing from this presentation that i like, his ppt slides contained just one sentence or one word .but he explained very well about the contents.
After that another person from Engineering division explained about their products and about the technologies that they using.He mostly told about middleware and Intergration of their products.
And he told us their company products are open source .
Then we saked some questions to them.after that they give t-shirts for us.Then we saw the working environmentof this company.and we saw the gym and basketball ground on the top floor that really nice.
At 12.30pm we leaved from this company and we got ready for the visit to Virtusa .
In virtusa:
First a person from HR in virtusa ,he delivered a presentaion about virtusa and also their expectations from the university students,After that another one delivered a presentaions about Quality Assurance of the products.That really usefull for us than the developments of the products.
After that we saw one project in virtusa. So many internship students working in that particular project,That project name is "AGURA".They explained about this project.That really enjoyable and useful for us.
We leant lot of this things from the developers who were working in this Akura project.
At 3.30 pm we leaved from the virtusa industry.
Then ,on the way our lecturer sarwes sir said that a plan to go a trip to kandy, so we accept that and we felt very happy to go there.Because we also planed to go and see any places than colombo.
25th January:
we wake up early morning 3.00 am and got ready for the trip to kandy.we saw pinawella national park ,Peradeniya Garden and Thalatha maliga .That day very enjoyable and unforgetabale movements in our life.
At 6.30 pm we got ready to leave from kandy.On the way Sarwes sir asked to us about the industrial visit to everyone.Some of them were not response to his request.but rajjas ,Sanjeewa,smantha , asalya akka, and me also said the comments about the visit.i was really happy to deliver that.
The industrial visit made some possible aspects in our mind.But we also think about our career in future.
In srilanka all industries willing to give the industrial Training of opportunities to the university students.But in our university ,they not provide the facility to make the industrial training for our students,So it is really sad in our students minds,Not only our minds but also in our seniors who are working in the industries now.
If we get the industrial training we can get a chance to work in an industry,because whatever we studied in university it fully different in industry, so If our university arrange the industrial training after we finished our degree programme that will very helpful to our students,This is my openion from the industrial visit.
And most of them told us about the softskills .so we need to develop our technical skills and communication skills .And also we need to be clear atleast one of the programming language.
These are my experience from the industrial visit.
And ,
I thank to our department for the arrangements of this industrial visit .Specially thanks to sarwes sir and Dr.Mahesan to made this visit very happy and enjoyable.
